Social networking sites and online gaming are two of the fastest growing trends in the Internet market. Now, it appears the two are combining for an even more unprecedented market boom. The two platforms each provide valuable assets for the other making them a perfect match. Social networks gather a plethora of personal information about users such as interests, hobbies, age, etc. Gaming companies can then use this information to market products specifically catered to you. Social networks such as Facebook or MySpace are a medium for both the launch and market of an online game. On the other hand, social networks benefit significantly from these games because it keeps users coming back to the site multiple times a day to play against friends and beat high scores. The higher the traffic, the more money they make in advertising. Together, these two offer a valuable product to the end user. Social network games allow you to play against your own friends and family as opposed to complete strangers, to whom you have no personal connection. Another appeal of social network gaming is the multitasking it facilitates. While you’re on Facebook playing Farmville, you can also be talking to a friend via Facebook chat. Games such as Texas Hold’em Poker, Zoo World, and The Sims 3 are played by millions of Facebook users through their personal accounts. (more…)
